College Ministry Upcoming Events

The college ministry of West Jackson Baptist Church exists to glorify Christ by making disciples who are growing in relationship with God in worship, with others in fellowship, and with the world in ministry. We fulfill this purpose by attempting to REACH nonbelieving students and CONNECT them with other Christians who can help them GROW towards an understanding of the Christian faith. We further fulfill this purpose by challenging growing Christians to DISCOVER their ministry gifts and to HONOR God by using these gifts in their lives. West Jackson desires to meet students where they are and to help them take the next step towards a closer relationship with Christ. We want to bring them in, build them up, train them, and send them out, magnifying the Lord in the process.
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit."
Jeremiah 17:7-8
College Bible Study
West Jackson's College Ministry meets weekly on Wednesday nights at 8:00 pm in the Loft to take an in-depth look at God's Word. Through praise, worship testimonies, and an intense study of the Bible, students are able to deepen their understanding of God's purpose and plan for their personal lives and ministries. This time also serves as a good opportunity for students to better understand the needs of their peers and pray for those they come in contact with on a daily basis.
Why 8:00 pm? The WJBC College Ministry wants to provide not only ways for college students to be fed spiritually, but also ways to minister to others. The college ministry strives to place college students in areas of ministry where they can help disciple others. The Junior and Senior High Students as well as children from birth thru 6th grade all meet from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday nights. These different areas all offer opportunities for college students to serve. From Small Group Leaders to sound technician, to anything else in between, WJBC wants college students to learn to serve and be served.
Sunday Morning Bible Study
Sunday Morning Bible Study stands as the foundational element of the college ministry at West Jackson Baptist Church. Classes meet weekly at 9:00 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. in the lobby of the Courts. College Sunday School classes are designed to address the needs of college students in today's world. By basing this area of ministry on a relational approach, students and adults are better able to equip one another for ministry. Students are invited to participate in various leadership areas of the Bible Study ministry. Furthermore, they are encouraged to express their views of scripture openly in a non-threatening environment that seeks to find the true meaning of God's Word and apply it to life's everyday situations.
